This box can be recycled for future gift wrapping or used as a treasure box. I used a combination of water color pencils and Zentangle to create the pattern. I developed this Zentangle pattern but will have to save sharing the method for a future post.

Orion wrapped in the moon

O_01.jpg

For my friend Orion's bday it seemed appropriate to use the moon wrap I bought at the Neiman Marcus/Target pop-up last December in NYC. The wrap is by Rodarte. That's right, designer paper.

To add to the theme I made some galaxy stationary with my new white ink I recently bought for calligraphy experiments.

You can make a galaxy on any dark paper with a paint brush and some white paint or, in the case of this project, white ink. Dip the brush and then fan the bristles with your thumb towards your paper. Whallah; Jackson Pollock. Don't forget to spray in a sink or on a drop cloth.

This was my first time trying out white ink with my calligraphy dip pin.

Post pop-up wrap-up

Mothers day weekend I had two events at my favorite SF store; Arch! I sold various letterpress ephemera and cat toys that I've been making lately. I was available to help folks wrap last minute mothers day gifts and share wrapping tips and inspiration.

A week before my event I had my kid in the candy store moment when I went on a mini-shopping spree in Arch to find fun things to wrap with. I wanted to give people inspiration for wrapping with unique materials. I love a pretty wrapping paper and ribbon but I love to find alternatives to traditional wrapping elements or find humorous ways to make a present special. Arch used my wraps as inspiration to gather more fun wrapping elements from the store into a display.

I used my masking tape ribbon technique on a zippered pouch to show that the wrapping can be part of the gift.

This wrap is a paint chip chart + rubber bands as ribbon. Arch had plenty paint charts so we were able to give some rolls away to peeps who stopped by.

We had a crafting table for folks to make gift tags and play with one of my favorite materials; washi tape.  Because I love working with patterns I also brought some vintage wall paper scraps.
